Ever seen a LEGO set that made you scratch your head in confusion? Or perhaps one that was so unoriginal, it was like déjà vu? Well, you’re not alone! August saw over 60 new LEGO releases, and while many were downright amazing, a few were… well, let’s just say they won’t be winning any awards soon! So, we asked to our Telegram Community to vote for their not-so-favorite sets, and here are the “August 2023 flop 5” that they chose!
Remember that this ranking does not refer to sales (as it was made the day after the release of these products), but only reflects the personal taste of NerdCube users!
5. LEGO Creator 3-in-1 31144 Exotic Pink Parrot
At number five, we have the Exotic Pink Parrot. Now, don’t get us wrong, the set itself is cute. What earns it a spot on our list is the lack of originality. It’s a recolor of the January release, the LEGO Creator 3-in-1 Exotic Parrot. Same set, different color. Not quite the creativity we are used to from LEGO. You can read here our article that compares these two sets.
4. LEGO Star Wars 75368 Yavin 4 Rebel Base
Next, we have the Yavin 4 Rebel Base! It’s big, it’s expensive, and sadly, quite underwhelming. Despite the neat Y-Wing and loads of minifigures, the base structure is lackluster and awkward to display.
3. LEGO Art 31210 Modern Art
Halfway through our list, we find the Modern Art set. It’s LEGO’s take on modern art, a pile of colorful bricks to arrange as you wish. The concept is cool, but execution seems a tad lazy. The resulting artwork felt uninspiring and too small to make an impact. You can purchase multiple sets to create nice wall decor, as illustrated in this article about it, but we don’t know how many people will actually be motivated to do so.
2. LEGO Star Wars 75368 Darth Vader Mech
The runner-up is Darth Vader Mech. This set is here representing the newly released Star Wars Mech trilogy: Darth Vader, Boba Fett and Stormtrooper Mech. This last one seems to be the favorite of the three because it received the least amount of votes!
Why is there? Why is it on this list and in this position? Just take a look at the set and ask yourself a simple question: “Was this really necessary?”
1. LEGO Marvel 76250 Wolverine’s Adamantium Claws
And the top spot goes to Wolverine’s Adamantium Claws. It aimed to recreate Logan’s iconic fist but ended up feeling like a lazy recolor of Thanos’s Infinity Gauntlet, with claws slapped on. A missed opportunity that left many fans disappointed, earning it the top spot on our flop list.
Did you like this August 2023 Flop 5?
Remember, LEGO is all about fun and creativity, and even the biggest flops can still provide hours of entertainment. So, while these sets may not be the crème de la crème of LEGO’s offerings, they might still spark joy for some builders.
